    Event details

Spending time in nature has significant positive effects on our emotional and physical wellbeing. How do we maintain this in a time of ever-increasing urbanisation?

In this webinar, Dr Phillip Ro?s will explore the concept of our human desire to be part of nature, also known as biophilia, and how this can inform architecture in wonderful ways.

He will focus on how these design elements have historically been integrated in architecture, some current best practice examples including cities that have legislated for biophilia to be considered when designing new buildings, and how we can expect to see more of this in the future.

What will this mean for the physical and mental health of humans, and what does it take to give a building ‘soul’?

    About the presenter:

Dr Phillip Ro?s is the Associate Head of School - Industry Engagement and the Director of the Live+Smart Research Laboratory at the School of Architecture and Built Environment, Deakin University. His work spans across architecture, urban design and planning, landscape architecture, environmental design, teaching and research, as well as writings and art.

Dr Ro?s is known internationally for his leading work in environmental design and planning on large scale infrastructure and built environment projects. He also provides independent environmental design and sustainability advice to organisations, professional bodies, and governments.
